Scattered weekend storms; cooler than normal next week

The weekend forecast for Acadiana will start off in typical July fashion Saturday, but look for increasing rain chances Sunday into early next week ahead of an unusual late July frontal system.

Saturday will bring partly to at times mostly cloudy skies, with scattered showers and thunderstorms firing up by late morning and continuing into the afternoon.

Rain chances Saturday will likely be in the 40% range with activity will likely to diminish across the board by early evening.

It will be hot and humid away from the storms with highs topping out near 90 and heat indices still pushing 102-103 in spots.

Deeper tropical moisture will advance from the east/southeast into the region Sunday, translating to a better chance of scattered showers and storms...tentatively set at 60%.

Highs Sunday should be limited to the upper 80s thanks to the additional cloud cover and rain chances.

Rain totals shouldn't be too high area-wide, but per usual, get caught in a slow moving storm, and a couple of inches could be possible.

Rain chances look to stay elevated into next week as an unusual front for late July works its way southward into the region, possibly making it offshore by late Tuesday into Wednesday.

This will make for good rain chances again Tuesday (see the 10 Day Forecast), but slightly drier and certainly cooler than normal temperatures are possible for a good part of the week...we're talking highs in the low-mid 80s (provided there remains plenty of clouds) with lows dropping into the upper 60s to lower 70s for a night or two.

The front will begin to move back to the north Friday, with the Euro model suggesting a weak disturbance attaching to the boundary as it moves through Louisiana Friday...which could lead to a good soaking...we'll see.

Fortunately, it looks like high pressure will be advancing back into the area by next weekend and we shouldn't expect any significant tropical development along this front.

By next weekend, it looks like a resumption of typical hot summer weather with rain chances decreasing to more normal levels...perhaps as low as 20% by next Sunday.

Elsewhere in the tropics, it remains nice and quiet.

So although we'll see plenty of clouds and on and off rain chances much of next week, enjoy the cooler than normal temperatures along with your a/c bill!
