10pm Tuesday Hurricane Delta Advisory

Posted
and last updated

After smashing the northern tip of the Yucatan overnight, Hurricane Delta is expected to emerge in the Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday afternoon and then will be setting its sights on Louisiana Friday.

Although Delta has weakened slightly, the Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds is expected to remain a powerful major hurricane through its trek into the Western Gulf of Mexico before turning north and/or perhaps northeastward toward the Louisiana Coast Friday.

The storm is expected to strike the Louisiana Coast, and at this point, Acadiana as a category 3 storm with 125 mph.

Hurricane force winds, wind gusts approaching 100-120 mph, a massive storm surge up to 15 feet by early estimates along the coast near and east of where the center makes landfall, and 4-8 inches of rain can be expected.

Delta will be a high impact hurricane event for a good part of Southern Louisiana and Acadiana with the expected worst of the storm most likely to arrive Friday evening.
