Clouds Increasing-Storms Late This Afternoon

Some Severe Weather Possible Overnight

and last updated

As high pressure moves away, low pressure will be developing to our west. This will drag a cold front through the area early Thursday bringing a better chance for rain and thunderstorms later this afternoon and overnight tonight. Winds are already shifting to the south, and temperatures early Wednesday are remaining in the mid 60s.

Wednesday we can expect clouds to increase through the day. Some showers and thunderstorms are possible later this afternoon, although here in Acadiana, those chances will climb more overnight.

The Storm Prediction Center has a large part of Acadiana under a slight risk for severe weather, while inland areas of Louisiana are in the enhanced coverage. Hail and gusty winds will be the primary threat. A few isolated tornadoes are possible. A heavy rain threat is more likely over central and northern parts of our state.

Storms will end fairly early Thursday morning, and skies will clear during the afternoon. Highs will run in the mid 80s. A secondary push of cooler air will come in for the weekend. This will bring mostly sunny skies and temperatures near normal into next week. Highs will reach the lower 80s, with overnight temperatures around 60 degrees. The next chance for rain won't be until the middle part of next week.
