The National Weather Service in Lake Charles (NWS) completed their storm surveys from Wednesday night’s into Thursday’s storms and flooding rains and determined up to 8 tornadoes impacted the Acadiana area.
Their assessment today and yesterday included 2 EF0 tornadoes with wind speeds ranging from 79 to 85 mph, and 6 EF1 tornadoes ranging in speeds from 90 to 110 mph.
The strongest twisters and most damage were found near Basile, Sunset and Krotz Springs with winds of 104, 107 and 110 mph respectively.
Other communities involved were Oak Grove, Lake Arthur, Roanoke, Jennings, and Redich.
All told, up to 16 tornadoes occurred in Southern Louisiana with Thursday’s storm system.

A portion of skirting around a mobile home was removed on the north side of the highway. The path continued northeast across Highway 380 breaking a few tree limbs before dissipating in a field. .Roanoke Tornado...
