Heat wave kicks in for the weekend

It’s here, not that it ever really went anywhere, but the well advertised heat wave has finally arrived with plans to spend the weekend across Texas and Louisiana.

You don’t need a long forecast discussion to figure out how hot it’s going to be (although you’re getting one anyway) all you need to do is step outside for half a minute.

The Heat Advisory which was issued on Thursday remains active for all of south Louisiana, and if you’ll be heading north this weekend keep in mind they’re dealing with hotter temperatures and an Excessive Heat Warning.

It’s important as a messenger to remind everyone not to blame the messenger but instead blame a ridge of high pressure that has expanded steadily eastward over the last few days.

The heat index the next few afternoons will push into the 108-112 range during the hottest times of the day, and even when the sun goes down those numbers won’t dip much further then the upper 80s.

It’s surprising that we still have to bring this up but this is the world we live in but do not leave kids or pets in the car in this kind of heat, a car sitting out for 15 minutes in the afternoon can reach 130-140 degrees.

If you know someone who may not be able to afford to run the A/C or who doesn’t have one this wouldn’t be a bad weekend to invite them over and make sure everyone is staying cool.
