Rain Chances Stay High

Posted

More tropical moisture is poised to push northward into Acadiana today. Expect a good chance for rain today, with a few storms being healthy rain producers. The heaviest rainfall will occur along the coast and points offshore, while far inland areas will receive more scattered variety showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Forecast models are putting down up to three inches of rain along the coast with 1-2 inches elsewhere. Some rains will "train" over the same areas, so rainfall exceeding model guidance can be expected in a few localized areas. Because cloud cover is expected to remain in the area, most will see temperatures only in the upper 80s this afternoon.

This tropical wave will continue on its westward track into Tuesday, but the moisture values will remain high. Therefore enhanced rain coverage will continue into Tuesday night with rains beginning to move our of our area by Wednesday. Expect cloudy skies again Tuesday with scattered rain and storms. Heaviest amounts of rain will remain over the western half of the region. By Wednesday, skies should become partly cloudy. A few afternoon storms will be possible.

By Thursday and the weekend, it appears we’ll be under the influence of high pressure in the upper levels. This should shut down the rains. More sunshine is expected, so temperatures will rebound back into the lower 90s which is normal for this time of the year.
