While summer no doubt looks different for most of us this year, for kids, it can be hard to understand why they’re not spending time with friends and heading off to summer camp.
If you’ve had to have some difficult conversations or have heard “I’m bored!” more times than you can count, you’ll want to check out a new program Walmart is launching that is sure to help keep your kids entertained. It’s a free, online summer camp, complete with family activities and celebrity guests.
Camp by Walmart will offer 50 free activities for kids beginning on July 8, then add more than 200 other activities throughout the summer. Kids can access the free camp by visiting the Walmart app on a smartphone or other device.
Celebrities serving as camp counselors include Drew Barrymore, Neil Patrick Harris, LeBron James and Idina Menzel. The sessions cover summer camp staples from arts and crafts to fitness and other activities to keep kids active and entertained all summer long.
Just some of the activities that will be available include Smarts and Crafts, which teaches campers about creativity, and Skills Camp, a talent show that features Menzel, the voice of Elsa in the “Frozen” films, who will showcase singing skills for campers.
There will also be a morning kick-off with Harris, who will guide families through one of 14 camp challenges, from charades to musical Mad Libs. The Great Family Challenge will feature various family-bonding activities, like a make-up tutorial with Barrymore and mental and physical activities with James.
Walmart made another announcement about its summertime offerings: The retailer will also be transforming 160 of its store parking lots into contact-free drive-in movie theaters, showing family-friendly films and delivering concessions right to your vehicle.
There will be a total of 320 showings from August through October, and the events will include special appearances from filmmakers and celebrities. Additional details, including locations and ticket information, will be announced closer to the start of the event.
Will you and your kids be attending Camp by Walmart this summer?
