Tools for Schools: J Wallace James

KATC is in Lafayette Parish for another “Tools for Schools” delivery. This week it’s J. Wallace Jame Elementary. KATC’s Katie Lopez was there for the drop-off.

This year, J Wallace James began a guitar program for students interested in learning. The school was able to purchase a few guitars and basic supplies for the program but equipment was lacking.

Today J Wallace James received a class set of capos and guitar tuners for students to use. Capos are clamps used to change the pitch of the guitar and are placed at the neck of the instrument. Tuners will help keep the instruments in tune.

This equipment will help students with playing a variety of songs, according to teacher Erin Gray.

“A class set of capos will allow students to play a variety of songs using basic chords.  A class set of turners will allow each student to tune their own guitar allowing more time for us to learn how to play,” Gray said.
