Spoiler alert: If you haven’t caught up on previous seasons of shows that will soon be airing new episodes, this article contains information you may not wish to know just yet.
Just like the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks, fall television will soon return. And honestly, we can’t wait.
Hit show “This Is Us,” for one, is coming back to NBC for its fourth season, airing at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays. And over on ABC, we’ll be reunited with all of our favorite families, including “The Conners,” the Andersons of “Black-ish” and “The Goldbergs.” We’ll also be spending time with the Pritchetts and the Dunphys of “Modern Family” for one last season, which will be bittersweet. And how about those Lyons? The family that reigns on the Fox network’s “Empire” returns for the show’s sixth and final season.
All of the major networks have fantastic fall season lineups. Here’s a look at some of the shows we look forward to watching.
‘The Voice’ — 8 p.m. Mondays And Tuesdays, Returning Sept. 23 On NBC
“The Voice” returns for Season 17 with the absence of a fan-favorite cast member: Adam Levine. The panel of coach-judges will instead include Gwen Stefani alongside her love, Blake Shelton, plus singers John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.
With Shelton losing his long-time bromance for actual romance, we’re curious to see if the dynamic of the panel on this popular singing competition show changes.
‘Chicago Med,’ ‘Chicago Fire’ And ‘Chicago P.D.’ — 8-11 p.m. Wednesdays, Returning Sept. 25 On NBC
One American city is the focus of an entire primetime lineup for NBC on Wednesday nights. “Chicago Med” kicks it off at 8 p.m., following the lives of emergency room doctors and nurses at the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. It’s in its fifth season.
Following “Chicago Med” is “Chicago Fire,” which enters its eighth season. The show follows the firefighters and paramedics working at Firehouse 51 in Chicago.
And the third installment on Wednesday nights is “Chicago P.D.,” in its seventh season. It follows — you guessed it! — the city’s police department.
All three are creations of Dick Wolf, the television producer who’s also behind the “Law & Order” franchise.
‘The Resident’ — 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Returning Sept. 24 On Fox
The honesty of what really happens in medical centers across the country is the basis for this popular primetime drama on Fox. “The Resident” enters Season 3 on Sept. 24 and focuses on Dr. Conrad Hawkins, who makes difficult decisions for his patients. He’s also now in a rekindled romance with Nurse Nic Nevin, and they will face unresolved issues from their past in this season.
‘The Good Place’ — 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Returning Sept. 26 On NBC
What makes a good person? “The Good Place” has been trying to answer this question for the past three seasons. Eleanor is a woman who, in entering the afterlife. finds herself in “the good place.” Believing herself to have landed there accidentally, the character tries to earn her spot there so that she won’t be kicked out.
In this newest season — the fourth and final one for “The Good Place” — the main characters are working to gain points in “the medium place,” while also trying to help people who are stuck in “the bad place.”
You can catch up on “The Good Place” by streaming older episodes on Fox’s website.
‘The Good Doctor’ — 10 p.m. Mondays, Returning Sept. 23 On ABC
Dr. Shaun Murphy and the St. Bonaventure staff are back with a lot of drama for the show’s third season. When we last saw these characters, Dr. Jackson Han had been removed as chief of surgery. Shaun, meanwhile, who is an autistic savant, will reportedly have more of a love life this season as he continues to struggle in his daily work life at the hospital.
The hospital also has a new chief of staff this season — Dr. Lim. This puts her in a position of power over her romantic partner, Dr. Melendez. This season is sure to bring a lot of tension — and good storylines.
‘A Million Little Things’ — 9 p.m. Thursdays, Returning Sept. 26 On ABC
Keep the tissues nearby at all times — this tearjerker of a show comes back for Season 2 with lots of deep storylines. We hear that young Danny (Chance Hurstfield) will play more of a role in this season. His storyline grew bigger toward the end of Season 1 when his family and friends learned he was gay.
Meanwhile, friends of Jon and Delilah Dixon poured out their love to the family after Jon’s sudden death — before learning that Delilah had an affair with Eddie, one of their friends, before Jon died.
We’re looking forward to seeing these million little storylines unravel as the new season kicks off this September.
‘FBI’ — 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Premieres Sept. 24 On CBS
Maggie and OA continue solving murders at the federal level in “FBI,” another series from creator Dick Wolf. We last saw the partners unraveling pieces of a huge criminal investigation after a woman with information on the death of Maggie’s husband was abducted.
And Dana admitted she plans to retire! We hope she’ll stick around longer. We love her dynamic with Jubal and the rest of the gang.
