School officials confirm that a student is under arrest, accused of bringing a weapon to school.

The child allegedly brought a knife to Opelousas Junior High, officials say. When the student pulled out the knife, there was panic and the students in the area ran. The teacher immediately took action, removed the students from the classroom and called the school resource officer. One child scraped her knee during that panic, officials said.

We asked if the incident was connected to bullying and school officials told us there's not enough information to determine if bullying was a factor.

"There are things in place at the school level for students to share this with adults. They are reporting procedures that we have established in the district, so at this point, I do not have a report of this student reported to an adult or anyone," said Dwanetta Scott, Principal Supervisor of Opelousas Schools and Executive Director of Child Welfare and Attendance.

There are metal detectors at the school, and officials say the student did go through them Thursday morning. As to how the student got pass the detectors is still under investigation.

Officials say counselors were at the school to support the students after the incident.

This is a developing story, and we'll have updates as soon as possible.
