Non conference has been very kind to UL Softball.
Last week, the Cajuns passing their biggest test yet, going 3-2 against No. 3 Texas and No. 6 Florida. With the wins, Louisiana improving to 7-4 against Power 5 opponents.
That's big as they enter conference play, where competition won't be as stiff in the Sun Belt.
"It's important that we play our very very best every game," Head Coach Gerry Glasco said. "I'll try to say that more mature as a coach and leader than I did last year. I think every game has tremendous effect on our postseason seeding from this point forward. Even more so and it's magnified because of the success we had on the road trip."
UL has dominated the SBC over the years. In 2019, the Cajuns finished a perfect 25-0 in conference, on their way to Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships. The Cajuns have won 6 straight Sun Belt Titles and 18 of the last 20.
"We have a certain confidence when we get in the Sun Belt," Glasco said. "We want to be known as the team to beat in the Sun Belt. We know teams are going to go into that series with us having a big bullseye on us. We have to embrace that challenge of knowing it's the biggest series of the year for Coastal Carolina and it will be for all 9 Sun Belt opponents."
The Cajuns open Sun Belt play traveling to Coastal Carolina for a 3 game series this weekend. First game against the Chanticleers is set for Friday at 3 pm.
First up, Louisiana hosts Campbell for a Wednesday contest at Lamson Park. First pitch is set for 6 pm.
