Louisiana's Patrick Toney was named Defensive Coordinator of the Week by Athlon Sports Tuesday.
In Toney's debut as a DC, the Cajuns defense held No. 25 Iowa State to only 14 points, 303 yards and forced two turnovers, in their 31-14 victory. UL also held ISU scoreless in the 2nd half and didn't give up any plays of 20+ yards.
Individually, Linebacker Ferrod Gardner was named the Walter Camp FBS National Defensive Player of the Week for his 10 tackles and one sack vs. the Cyclones.
As a team, the upset over the Cyclones landed the Cajuns at No. 19 in the Associated Press poll and No. 21 in the Coaches Poll. This is UL's first ranking in the modern era of college football.
Louisiana returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Atlanta to begin Sun Belt Conference play against Georgia State. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. CST and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
