Gill: "The football question is an open question."

Sun Belt working on fall contingency plans

The Sun Belt did not mince words, the conference doesn't know what its plans are if the COVID-19 pandemic bleeds into the fall.

Speaking for the first time since the conference put the spring on hold, commissioner Keith Gill said on a teleconference that the league has put together a committee and is looking at all possible solutions.

"We’ve begun talking about concepts. We’re about to survey our football coaches. And we’ve talked to our COVID-19 Advisory Panel, so that we can begin to put together some return-to-play protocol," Gill said Thursday.

Those concepts could include postponing the year, or even eliminating non-conference play.

"At the end of the day, there needs to be a national solution. We’ll come up with ideas individually, but then we’ll all come together as FBS conferences and decide what makes the most sense as to when we start playing football.”
