Louisiana women's basketball won its 13th-straight game Saturday, beating Little Rock 60-32, earning the Sun Belt regular seasons title, the first in program history.
"As players you dream about moments like this all the time," said senior guard Jomyra Mathis who scored a team-high 12 in the win. Mathis, and the Cajuns seniors led the charge Saturday. Seniors Ty Doucet (11) and Kim Burton (11) also scored in double figures.
The Cajuns, one of the hottest teams in the country, raced out of the gates scoring 23 in the first quarter alone. Louisiana led 35-13 at the half leaving a record 13th-straight win in little doubt.
"Knowing if it was going to happen? Sophomore year I'd tell you no. But junior year, and this year, coming in knowing what we had done, the hard work that we put in this summer, yeah I dreamed about it a lot, talked about it a lot," said Mathis.
Louisiana now turns its attention to Pensacola, FL and the sun Belt Tournament where the Cajuns earned a first round bye.
