Cajuns Offensive Line: Strength in Numbers

Expects Improvement despite losing Hunt, Dotson to NFL

LAFAYETTE — UL Football tied a program record this year when 3 players were selected in the NFL draft. Two of those three players were offensive lineman. All American guard Kevin Dotson (Steelers), along with 2nd round pick Robert Hunt (Dolphins) at tackle.

So it would be natural to believe the O-line will take a step back in 2020.

But not so fast.

For one, senior linemen Cole Prudhomme and Ken Marks sat out most of 2019 with injuries, but the duo returns with 40 starts of experience combined.

Their absence, along with a mid season injury to Hunt, gave several young players a chance to grow up on the fly.

Shane Vallot, Max Mitchell and O'Cyrus Torrence started a combined 41 games last season. They helped the Cajuns create the 6th best rushing offense in the nation in 2019.

Because of this, Prudhomme believes this group has a chance to be even better in 2020.

"I honestly don't think there will be a drop off," Prudhomme explained. "I think there will be an increase. No disrespect to those guys, they were great athletes. But, the coaches we have in the o line room. And the guys we have. People being in their 3rd year in the program. There's a high chance that we'll have 10 guys in the rotation."
