ARLINGTON, Texas – Louisiana showed some offensive life in the ninth inning when it plated four runs, but crooked numbers put up by UTA in its final three innings allowed the Mavericks to complete a 9-5 victory and series sweep over the Ragin’ Cajuns at Clay Gould Ballpark.

For Louisiana (20-23, 8-10), it was the first time it has been swept in a conference series since dropping three games against the Mavericks on April 28-30, 2017.

Orynn Veillon finished the day with three hits, including two doubles, in four at bats. Todd Lott and Daniel Lahare each added RBI doubles in the loss, while Brennan Breaux and Handsome Monica were responsible for the other two Ragin’ Cajun hits.

Junior Jack Burk fell to 1-1 on the year, giving up six runs, four of which were earned, on 10 hits in 6.1 innings of work. He finished his outing with five strikeouts.

A solo home run in the second inning put UTA ahead early, but it was quickly erased in the top of the fourth when Lott sent a double deep into left-center field to allow Breaux to score and tie the game at 1-1.

UTA (28-13, 14-4) broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth when back-to-back singles brought two runs in to push the Mavericks ahead, 3-1. Six more Maverick runs scored over the next two frames extended their advantage out to 9-1.

Louisiana mounted an admirable comeback in the top of the ninth, scoring four runs on three hits to cut into the lead. However, it was not enough as UTA completed the sweep with the 9-5 victory.
