METAIRIE (KATC) – Orynn Veillon and Handsome Monica go back-to-back as Louisiana beats LSU 6-5 in the Wally Pontiff Classic Tuesday.

The Cajuns raced out to a 3-nothing lead early behind a Veillon single and Monica sac-fly. But the lead was undone with one swing. In the fourth LSU’s Cade Beloso hit a three-run home run off the foul pole tying the game 3-3.

LSU then took the lead with a Brandt Broussard sac-fly in the fifth. Beloso added on another run with a single in the frame as the Tigers open up a 5-3 lead.

But in the 8th, the Veillon-Monica duo strikes with back-to-back home runs as Louisiana wins its third-straight over LSU. Louisiana is now 20-20 on the season as LSU falls to 24-14.

Cajuns’ pitcher Jacob Schultz earned his first win of the year pitching four shutout innings of relief. He struck out four allowing just two hits.

Louisiana travels to Arlington to take on the Sun Belt West leading Mavericks in a series that begins Thursday. LSU hosts no. 15 Florida for a three-game series that also begins Thursday.
