LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – Riding the momentum of a doubleheader sweep over Maryland on Saturday, the Louisiana baseball team will play midweek games against in-state opponents on Tuesday at Nicholls State and Wednesday at McNeese State. Both games are slated to begin at 6 p.m.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (3-7) have only played one midweek game this season, an extra-inning defeat at Louisiana Tech on February 20. The team’s lone midweek contest scheduled for last week at Southeastern Louisiana was postponed to April 3 due to weather.

In its last outing, Louisiana dropped the opening game on Friday to Maryland, but back-to-back, walk-off wins on Saturday secured the series victory, 2-1. Connor Cooke and Blake Schultz earned their first career victories against the Terrapins.

Through 10 games, Handsome Monica leads the Ragin’ Cajuns at the plate with a .273 (10-for-44) batting average in 10 starts. Monica is also tied for the team lead with six RBI. Brennan Breaux, who has also started all 10 games, is second on the team with a .257 average (9-for-35).

Sophomore Jacob Schultz will get the start for Louisiana on Tuesday, his third start of the season. Over the weekend, he pitched 4.1 innings on Friday, allowing an unearned run on three hits and fanning six batters. Wednesday’s starter is listed as TBA.

Nicholls State (7-5) has lost four of its last five games after winning six of its first seven contests. The Colonels offense has been solid through 12 games, hitting .288 as a team with 22 extra-base hits and 10 home runs. Brady Bell leads the way at the plate with 19 hits and 11 RBI.

The Colonels starter is currently TBA.

McNeese State (7-4) is riding a four-game winning streak that includes two wins over Nicholls. Nate Fisbeck has been the top offensive performer for the Cowboys, recording 19 hits, scoring 19 runs and batting in 16 more.

Louisiana leads the all-time series over Nicholls, 72-54-1, and is 95-64 against McNeese. Under head coach Tony Robichaux, the Ragin’ Cajuns are a combined 54-29 against both programs.
