LAFAYETTE (KATC) – The Louisiana baseball team looks to bounce back after a challenging road swing when it returns to the friendly confines of Russo Park for a three-game series with Maryland beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s game is slated to begin at 2 p.m., with Game Three on Sunday scheduled for 1 p.m. All three contests can be streamed live on RaginCajuns.com/Watch.

Louisiana (1-6) will be well rested ahead of first pitch after its midweek clash with Southeastern Louisiana was postponed due to impending weather across the state. The Ragin’ Cajuns have not played at home since February 17 when it defeated No. 22 Texas, 8-6, in the final game of their three-game series.

Redshirt senior Gunner Leger will get the start for Louisiana on Friday night, his first game action since Opening Night against Texas when he went 5.0 innings of two-hit, no-run ball with four strikeouts. Dalton Horton gets the nod on Saturday for the Ragin’ Cajuns, having already made two starts this season and boasting a 1-0 record. Sunday’s starter is TBA.

With Hunter Kasuls most likely out this weekend, the offense will look for a boost from Handsome Monica and Brennan Breaux, who are a combined 16-for-55 at the plate. Todd Lott will also look to contribute early as he is currently hitting .278 (5-for-18) in the DH role.

Maryland (5-2) visits Lafayette boasting a five-game winning streak that includes a weekend sweep of Maine. Randy Bednar leads the way at the plate for the Terrapins, batting .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles and two homers. Maxwell Costes is hitting .333 (8-for-24) for Maryland with a team-best eight RBI.

The Terps will start Hunter Parsons, Zach Thompson and Trevor LaBonte on the mound this weekend.

The series will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Louisiana has been successful against the Big Ten Conference, though, boasting a 20-16 record against current members.
