LAFAYETTE (KATC) — For the last time this season, Louisiana will have a shot at two of the conference’s top teams this week when they play at Texas-Arlington, and Texas State.

The meeting is the only one for the Cajuns this year against the Texas-based teams and comes with six games remaining on the schedule.

Texas State is first in the Sun Belt standings, UTA ranks fourth. The Mavericks are the only team in the conference’s top four who lost last week. That grouping that includes Georgia State and Georgia Southern went 6-2, creating a little space between them and the bottom three-quarters of the conference.

Louisiana is in a three-way share for fifth place with Louisiana-Monroe and Coastal Carolina. That group has just a two-and-a-half game cushion over last play Troy.

“If you look at our conference, I think we have 6 or 7 teams within two games of each other,” Bob Marlin said Monday. “Same thing in some other conferences that are similar in our stature. Everything is balanced and one game can mean a big difference, so you have to put a ton of weight on the next game, and they’re all important.”
