LAFAYETTE (KATC) Bob Marlin says Jakeenan Gant is the best player in the Sun Belt and “it’s not even close.”
Marlin continues to sing the praises of his senior forward who is averaging better than 30-points in conference play.
Gant scored 31 in Saturday’s loss at ULM. Gant leads the Sun Belt in conference scoring, rebounding and blocks. He’s second in the conference in field goal percentage.
Gant has scored 30-plus points in three of the team’s last four games. Monday Marlin compared him to another Louisiana basketball star.
“You want to look at a poor-man’s Anthony Davis. He scores 3s, dunks, short jumpers, free throws. He scores every way imaginable,” said Marlin. “He’s not always on the block taking a double team. He’s done a tremendous job and rebounded well offensively. He’s off to a great conference start for him and I look forward to see how he continues to play.”
Louisiana hosts South Alabama Thursday at 7.
