Louisiana falls 2-1 on senior day

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime decision to Georgia State on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the regular season at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (3-12-3, 2-7-1 SBC) were outshot 13-10 in the match by the Panthers (7-9-2, 5-4-1 SBC). Georgia State held a slight 5-4 edge in corners as well.

Nine different Louisiana players registered a shot in the contest led by junior Erika Sierra with two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The contest would remain scoreless after the first 45 minutes as the Ragin’ Cajuns outshot the Panthers 4-2 in the half.

Georgia State broke the scoreless tie in the 80th minute when Brisa Zavala knocked a cross from Mikella Rodriguez into the top of the net past keeper Mackenzie Lee.

Louisiana found the equalizer in the 84th minute as Telly Vunipola sent a deflection from Gwen Mummert on a corner kick into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-all.

In the first overtime period, GSU’s Lexy Smith sent a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box through the hands of Lee in the 98th minute to give the Panthers the victory.
