Press Release

  • Louisiana could not be stopped on the offensive side of the ball in the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 66-38 Homecoming win over New Mexico State (Oct. 13), racking up a school record 759 yards of total offense.
  • The total number of offense yards broke a decade-old record of 728 yards set against ULM on Oct. 4, 2008.
  • Louisiana’s offensive numbers was the third-best total gained by any team in the FBS so far this season.
  • The Cajuns scored 66 points, in its dominating win against New Mexico State, and that is the largest point total the Cajuns have scored since putting up 70 against Nicholls State in 2013.  More importantly, the 66 points were the most that Louisiana has ever scored against an FBS team in the modern area, with Nicholls State being a member of the FCS.
  • Another school record set by Louisiana were the 37 first downs that the Cajuns got throughout the game against New Mexico State, breaking the previous record of 33, set three times, last against Middle Tennessee in 2003.
  • Senior quarterback Andre Nunez had a career game in Louisiana’s 66-38 win over New Mexico State on Oct. 13, throwing for 315 yards on 19-for-25 passing with five touchdown passes.
  • Nunez’s five touchdown passes tied a school record set by Jake Delhomme in 1996, Delhomme and Nunez are the only two quarterbacks in school history to reach the five TD mark.
  • The performance by Nunez was the 22nd-best passing performance in school history, and it was the 34th time that a quarterback has thrown for at least 300 yards in a game for Louisiana.
  • According to ESPN’s QBR rating, Nunez had the third-best QBR in the FBS and his passing efficiency of 247.8 was the second-best in the FBS during the past weekend and the 10th-best by any quarterback this season.
  • When looking at Nunez’s numbers in the conference, he threw for the most yards in the conference this past weekend and he became only the fifth quarterback in the conference to throw for at least 300 yards this season.  The five touchdown passes were the most by a quarterback in the Sun Belt this past weekend and the second most thrown by a quarterback in the conference this season.
