Lafayette Christian Academy Safety Sage Ryan committed to LSU Saturday.
He chose the Tigers ultimately over Alabama.
It was a hectic week on the recruiting trail, as at the beginning of the week, it was a 50/50 decision between LSU and Bama. But Ryan made his decision to stay home Wednesday, and it was largely due to family.
His cousin, Kevin Faulk, is an LSU legend who is currently the running backs coach at LSU. His uncle, Trev Faulk, was an All-American linebacker with the Tigers and is currently the director of football operations at LCA. He sat to the left of Ryan while he announced his decision.
"My family, they guided me through this process. Like my uncle said, it's family over everything," Ryan said. "My people are in Louisiana, so that's what I went with. They been with me since day 1. Since Brown Park Recreational Center, when I played there. They all supported me. I said I was going to play in front of them for the next 3-4 years. Make my momma happy and call it a day."
Ryan is considered the number 1 safety in the nation according to 247 Sports, and the 2nd best player in Louisiana. Rivals has him ranked as the 32nd best player in the nation and ESPN also has Ryan as a Top 100 recruit.
The senior is now a 3-time all-state selection, and well on the way to his 4th. As a junior in 2019, he amassed 24 total touchdowns, over 1,300 all-purpose yards and was named district 6-2A offensive MVP.
