BATON ROUGE (KATC) – After spending a year on the practice squad impressing head coach Ed Orgeron,  Jonathan Giles earned the symbolic no. 7 jersey last season. But after an underwhelming season he is on the way out the door.

Giles recorded just 10 receptions for 59 yards for LSU. He transferred to Baton Rouge after an eye-popping sophomore (2016) season with Texas Tech where he caught 69 passes for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He entered the transfer portal Thursday and could wind up as a graduate transfer if he graduates this summer.

Coach Orgeron awarded Giles the no. 7 jersey, given to an LSU leader, last season. This year that number was given to Grant Delpit. When asked about the change Orgeron said “It’s better than the choice I made last season.”
