BATON ROUGE (KATC) — Ed Orgeron has never played a team riding a  25-game win streak. He will in the Fiesta Bowl when LSU plays Central Florida.

For the second-straight year UCF finished the year perfect in the regular season, but missed out on the college football playoffs. Their last loss came during the 2016 Cure Bowl against Arkansas State.

Coach Orgeron has ties to Florida, having coached at Miami from 1988-92. Orgeron said back then there were more recruits than major programs in the state, USF & UCF had not begun playing in FBS (or I-A as it was known then) yet.

Now he believes UCF is capitalizing on the wealth of in-state talent.

“They only had Miami, Florida and Florida State,” Orgeron said Tuesday. “We couldn’t sign all of the guys. These guys were going to Syracuse and Virginia Tech and were great players. Now, the players in Florida, Florida State, Florida and Miami can’t sign them all, and these guys are darn good football players and better than the guys Miami, Florida and Florida state are getting, and that’s why they’re having so much success.
