BATON ROUGE — Select schools will not compete in the Prep Classic football championships held in the Super Dome.

The news became official Thursday when schools voted 39-32 to forego the event and play in their own championship. According to the Advocate, select schools will play their championships the week of December 6-8 at either Louisiana, Tulane or Southeastern.

The LHSAA's Prep Classic is scheduled to play in the Super Dome the following week, December 12-14.

This past winter, select schools, or private schools, voted to split away from the championship format used by the LHSAA, furthering a split that began in 2013. In July, in an opposing move, the league voted to seek options that would end the controversial select/non-select split. A resolution from that July decisions is not expected soon, and select schools have moved on in accordance with the January vote. Earlier this month the LHSAA offered to allow the select schools to still play in the event if they chose to, something they voted against Thursday.
