Division IV Semifinal

Vermilion Catholic faces defending Division IV champion Oucahita Christian in our Friday Night Football Game of the Week. In a battle of the birds, VC hopes to get over its playoff hump.

Since winning the 2013 state championship, Vermilion Catholic has not been back to a championships game. In that time the Eagles have been a top 3 seed in each season but one. It's a frustrating track record that came to a head last year when, as the number one seed, the Eagles were bounced in a quarterfinal loss to Country Day.

Undefeated, 8-0, Vermilion Catholic says there is a different vibe around the program.

"That's one thing this year that is different. Our energy is up. That's what's getting us there, our energy," said sophomore linebacker Ashton Belaire.

"Every year is its own year and I don't think our guys feel any of that," said head coach Broc Prejean. "I think it's really impressive what they've done in recent years to always be there in the end, and we're just hoping to get over that hump and give ourselves a chance in December."

Prejean, who won a state title at Vermilion Catholic as an Eagle, won a Division II championship last fall as a member of St. Thomas More's staff.

Winner of this Division IV semifinal will play the winner of Calvary Baptist and Southern Lab.
