When you go to sleep on Christmas Eve, our dreams are usually filled with all the goodies that Santa will bring.
For Acadiana football, they hope it includes another championship ring.
“I think it'd be extremely special. It's hard to win a state championship, it's extremely hard to win 2 in a row," Acadiana Head Coach Matt McCullough. "If you can endure all that and win two state championships in a row. That'd be a big thing.”
Acadiana is aiming to repeat as state champs for only the 2nd time ever in program history. The last time it happened was 2013-14.
Standing in the Rams way is 6 seed Alexandria, who's played the role of giant slayer in the postseason. The Trojans have knocked off Zachary and West Monroe over the last two weeks.
The Acadiana are coming off a shutout of Destrahan and feel like they're peaking at the right time.
“I think we're still improving. I think we'll continue to improve this week next week," McCullough said. "We've only actually played 10 games. I think we're playing pretty well. We just have to play like that one more week.”
“Championships run in a long history of acadiana football," Acadiana senior center Justin Babineaux said. "Winning another championship wouldn't be crazy in a sense. But to us, that's a huge thing to do, and that's just part of the culture.”
Acadiana will take on Alexandria Wednesday in Natchitoches. Kickoff is at 6 pm.
