In a letter sent to schools Monday the LHSAA green-lit football practices beginning August 3rd, giving coaches much needed direction for how teams can begin to practice.

Geaux Preps was the first to report the letter, which was sent to each school. The letter detailed rules for teams to follow as practices slowly begin.

Starting August 3rd teams can practice with helmets and proper footwear only. Teams can practice ball exchange drills and 7 on 7s, but no contact is allowed. There are no groups allowed to exceed 25 people.

Later that week, beginning Augusts 6th, teams are allowed to begin wearing pads.

Summer rules expire August 9th and teams will revert back to no pads.

When the state moves into phase three, a date that is still undetermined, group sizes jump to 50 and teams can resume wearing pads. Still no contact allowed.

The letter doesn't suggest or even hint at starting games on time. But keeping practices on time gives the league its best chance. As the schedule reads today the regular season begins Thursday, September 3rd.
