Elton High School will not play football in 2020, saying it cannot field a varsity squad.
Elton head coach Donald Bruchhaus juggled the decision much of the summer, as his team struggled to field a full roster. Ultimately, the Indians could only roster 20 players, half of who are freshman.
Bruchhaus said it just wasn't in the best interest of the players to play a varsity schedule. He said because of the the Coronavirus, many schools didn't field junior varsity teams either, a path he would have ultimately chosen if an option.
The 2020 edition of Indian football has officially been cancelled. We are all deeply saddened that things have come to this due to COVID-19. Worst case scenario has been realized and our hearts go out to the players and coaches, especially the seniors.
