LAFAYETTE — Lafayette football has reason to believe 2019 is the season the Lions return to the postseason.
"We were there last year and had a chance to do it," said senior linemen Sean Gautreaux "Our focus was there but we're hungrier and everyone wants it more."
Lafayette won three games in 2018, a season after a disappointing winless campaign. Then sophomore quarterback Xan Saunier took a step forward on the field and in the locker room.
"We were doing team meetings and coming off an 0-10 season, he stood up in the meeting and said what needed to be said, a lot of people knew it, but he said it without trying to win a popularity contest," said head coach Rob Pool. "He said what the truth was. The more you do that and the more people buy in to following."
Saunier is one of ten returning starters. Kicker and punter Jacques Comeaux is another. He eanred all district honors in 2018.
