BREAUX BRIDGE — After an 0-2 start, Breaux Bridge found its footing and took a run at the district 5-4A championship last season.

"We were six inches away on a field goal from winning district. So, if we can do that, go 7-3 and this time win district, and hopefully play on Thanksgiving, I think that would be a really successful year," said head coach Chad Pourciau.

It's a new season in a newly named district for the Tigers. New is perhaps the theme in 2019.

Inexperience may be the thorn in the Tigers' paw, but the team does return several key pieces like running back Kavion Martin, and three of the team's four key receivers.

But who is throwing the ball? That is senior quarterback Gavin Courville who spent all of last season playing JV.

"I don't really feel any strong pressure because I know my coaches a lot of confidence in me," said Courville. "It's good to fall back on but I'm ready to get a taste of it, see what it's like."

"I do see a lot of progress we made over the summer, with a lot of guys getting stronger and faster. So, that's been the big differences, just trying to get those guys some experience," added senior linebacker Payton Parker.

2018 Record: 8-4
Head Coach: Chad Pourciau
District: 6-4A
Returning Starters: 9 (5 offense, 4 defense)
Other Notes: New district, same old teams. 5-4A gets a new name, and loses St. Martinville, but the Tigers will again see Livonia, Cecilia, Opelousas and Beaue Chene.
