Comeaux Spartans
Coach: Doug Dotson (6th year as HC)
2019 Record: 6-6 (Lost in 2nd Round)
District: 3-5A
Notes: Upset No. 6 Seed Slidell 42-14 in 1st round of playoffs
Comeaux football has a lot to replace on offense. Stars in quarterback Tre Harris, running back Eddie Flugence and wide receiver Malik Nabers are all gone. But don't start to feel bad for the Spartans.
"I would say our skill guys we have speed, we have strength," Comeaux running back Sherod Taylor said. "We seem confident. I think we're good, we're ready."
If the 6'1, 230 pounds Taylor is any indication, Comeaux should pack a punch again in 2020. The tailback runs a 4.5 40 yard dash according to head coach Doug Dotson and he's not the only Spartan with speed. New QB Sean Malveaux is also a dual threat and could make the backfield even faster this season.
Overall, Comeaux returns 10 starters, including a wealth of experience on the offensive line that should help the Spartans carry out their physical tradition
"I think that group has come together. Coach Austin Touchet and Christian Brower have done a great job of molding them as a unit," Dotson said. "It may be the biggest group I've had since we've been here. We got a lot of size and some plow horses. I really think that they're going to move the line of scrimmage."
"I'm very confident, especially on the physical level," senior offensive lineman Jacob Simon said. "We have freshman benching 225. Everybody is strong, big. Big linemen."
Comeaux is hoping to build off their playoff momentum in 2019, when they upset 6 seed Slidell 42-14 in the first round.
