BATON ROUGE (KATC) – The LHSAA may have changed it’s tune when it comes to the controversial select/non-select split, singing the Turtles’ Happy Together instead.
Tuesday in the final moments of the LHSAA’s Executive Committee summer meeting, Assumption High School asked the board to explore reunifying the league and ending the split.

Robin Fambrough reports that Assumption principal Niles Riche led a motion asking LHSAA director Eddie Bonine to explore multiple options that could bring schools back together.
The original split began in 2013, and in January Teurling’s principal Mike Boyer led the select schools in proposing that select schools host their own championships deepening the divide between schools.
In July select schools are scheduled to have another meeting to further discuss creating their own governing body.
The LHSAA will poll schools in the coming months looking for their input on what unifying options they would support. According to the Advocate’s report a 2014 poll, which was lost in the 2016 flood, showed schools did support ending the split.
