BATON ROUGE (KATC) — The LHSAA has set it’s final district plan for the 2019-2021 school years.

The governing body for Louisiana’s high school athletics released it’s final plan Tuesday night. Among the notable headlines impacting Acadiana schools are a revamped 4A, and creation of top-heavy districts in both 2A and 3A.

North Vermilion, Washington Marion and Eunice’s move up to 4A, combined with LaGrange’s fall sparked a shakeup among Acadiana involved districts, which will now be split into three. Rayne, Eunice, LaGrange, North Vermilion and Washington Marion make up 4-4A. Carencro, Northside, St. Thomas More, Teurlings and Westgate constitute 5-4A. Breaux Bridge, Beau Chene, Cecilia, Livonia, and Opelousas will form 6-4A.

In 3A, Kaplan, Crowley and St. Martinville will headline district 6-3A. Former 8-3A teams Abbeville and Erath are also in the district, as is non-football playing school David Thibodaux.

LCA moves up to 2A, joining district 6. The Knights will join Notre Dame, Welsh, Lake Arthur and Port Barre. Of the teams in the district, four made the football playoffs this season, Notre Dame, Welsh and LCA are all playing in the third round of the playoffs, or the state semifinals for the select schools.
