BATON ROUGE (KATC) — The LHSAA finalized the 2019-2021 classifications according to an Advocate report.

Southside will debut as a 5A team in it’s first varsity football season. Other notable changes involving Acadiana teams include North Vermilion rising to 4A, Port Barre dropping to 2A, and Lafayette Christian Moving up to 2A too.

Reporting from Wednesday’s meeting, the Advocate’s Robin Fambrough said Comeaux appealed it’s enrollment numbers based on concerns of further decline caused by Southside High School. The school looked to drop to 4A, but that appeal was denied.

Fambrough says Port Barre successfully appealed 22 students who are in the GED program. That caused the Red Devils to drop classifications.
