LAFAYETTE (KATC) — Teurlings volleyball has become a Louisiana volleyball powerhouse under head coach Terry Hebert. But the program’s success is powered by more than one Hebert.

Terry has been in charge of the Rebels for a decade, about 8-years-ago his wife Meredith joined him in coaching Matrimony. She was a former assistant at St. Thomas More, her departure from the school often refereed to as “the other catholic school” ended an era of civil war in the household.

“There was an on going joke from the parents that the loser had to sleep on the couch,” said Terry. “It never happened.”

Meredith says she never hesitated to leave STM and join Terry, a decision she calls ‘a chance of a lifetime.’ Now she also has a front row seat for her daughter’s success.

Last season, in the midst of a 67 match win-streak Ariana became her own star. She was one of four players named to the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association All-State team, and was named the MVP at the state championship tournament where Teurlings won it’s 5th-straight title.

“After the state game, it’s on a picture from Scott Clause, I’m crying and we’re hugging. I have my arms wrapped around them and they’re crying. That’s my favorite moment,” Ariana said.

In 2018 Teurlings is again the number one seed in Division II with prospects of a sixth title hanging in the balance. The team begins postseason play Thursday at home.
