Lake Arthur girls basketball, the three-time district champions under head coach Vicki Sketoe has been a powerhouse. The 20-3 Tigers are heading in the direction to have their best season yet.
“We’ve been playing well, and the kids work hard, and it’s been a great season," said Head Coach Vickie Sketoe.
A big part of what keeps this team together is the 5'11 senior forward Deonna Brister, the 2019 District MVP.
“This year, she’s going to be trying for the same position, I hope. She’s just done a great job this year, been a leader. Our scoring leader, our rebound leader.”
The senior who's known for bringing energy to the court led her team with 26 points as they defeated Lafayette Christian Academy last week. The Lady Knights were ranked No. 1 in the division III ranking before they faced the Tigers.
“If one of the players go up and get an and one, that’s a big deal, and we cheer and celebrate. Or if someone hits a big three at the end of a quarter, it’s just a vibe," said senior forward Deonna Brister.
With 8 district games left on the schedule, the Tigers hope to continue their success to the very end.
“We have many goals, but the main goal is to be in the finals playing for the state championship.”
After Brister finishes her final year at Lake Arthur, she'll be on her way to Thibodaux to join Nicholls Women's basketball team for the 2021-2022 season.
