KATC’s Senior Spotlight: STM’s Meredyth Howard

Posted

LAFAYETTE (KATC) — 2018 will be a year St. Thomas More senior Meredyth Howard will not forget. It was the year Meredyth turned to volleyball as an escape.

This fall, Meredyth’s mom Kathryn Howard died, losing her battle with cancer. She was 44 years old. 24-hours after, Meredyth was back on the court with her team, trying to forget the pain at home.

“I’m not going to lie, this season has been really hard. The girls have been super supportive and have given me an escape from everything going on,” Meredyth said.

Howard and the Cougars banded together for another deep state playoff run, losing in the semifinals to Cabrini.

Howard’s high school career was wildly successful. She won two state championships, was named all-state and will play at LSU. As a sophomore she accepted a preferred walk-on spot there. Meredyth’s mom attended LSU, her dad Jamie played football for the Tigers in the 90’s and her sister attends school there too.
