Amite 47, Welsh 20 – 2A Championship

Welsh’s Title defense comes a win short, as Amite wins the 2A title 47-20.

The Greyhounds found themselves in a 13-0 hole early, but responded with an Alec Iguess TD to make it 13-7.

The athletes of Amite were too much to handle in the end, as LSU target WR/CB Devonta Lee, WR/CB Kyle Maxwell, and Kentucky commit QB Amani Gilmore each had big impacts. Gilmore was named 2A Most Outstanding Player.

For Welsh and seniors like Alec Iguess, Austyn Benoit and Ryan McKenzie and others, this marks the end of one of the most successful eras in program history. The Greyhounds compiled a record of 46-9 over 4 years, including a 4A State title in 2017.
