2017 Record: 6-6
How it Happened: Following a 6-6 record a year ago, Lake Arthur football returns 12 starters to this year’s Tigers team. Starters whom head coach Mark Deshotel sees as leaders that will be able to help newcomers adjust to their roles.
Deshotel says with teams like Notre Dame, Welsh and Kinder in 2A district 5, his team has a yearly advantage of being battle-tested for the playoffs by simply going through its regular season schedule.
The Tigers will once again run a 425 defense with a double slot veer offense. But the team will have to pick up the slack for very young offensive and defensive lines.
It all plays into the Tiger’s motto of “Find a way.” If one thing goes wrong, Deshotel simply tells his team to find a way. Make it happen.
Last year following a four game losing streak to end the regular season, the team did just that. Winning its opening-round playoff matchup and proving its mettle.
