St. Martinville Tigers
2017 Record: 6-4
How it Happened: How much is experience worth to a team? Well for St. Martinville football it turns out quite a lot. The tigers will return nine players from their starting defense last season, with ten returning starters on offense. If consistency breeds results, the purple and gold have a lot to look forward to this season.
One of those returning starters will be Tigers all-district senior quarterback Markavon Williams. Williams has led St. Martinville at quarterback since midway through his sophomore season.
Joining Williams in the experience category will be two-time all-district running back Travien Benjamin, who ran for 1700 yards in 2017 with 22 touchdowns. Benjamin also earned an all-state honorable mention for his play last season.
Both players will join a veteran offensive line that returns all of its starters from a year ago. On defense junior strong safety Bailey Mitchell is one of the few underclassmen able to secure a starting spot on head coach Vincent Derouen’s experience-laden team.
