Basile Bearcats
2017 Record: 9-4
How it Happened: After a disappointing 3-win season in 2016, the Bearcats rode All-State linebacker and leading rusher Andre Reed to the state quarterfinals where they lost to 34-6 to Oak Grove.
In 2018 Basile will be a 1A favorite, loaded with returning talent. The Bearcats return Super-16 and All-State linebacker Andre Reed. He’s one of the 8 returning starters on each side of the ball. Head coach Kevin Bertrand is quick to note that some of those starters play both ways. Bertrand says their strength is in their experience, but their depth provides a weakness most 1A schools struggle with. Reed, plays offense, defense and special teams. Even 3-year starting quarterback Dawson Ashford is listed as a safety on the team roster.
