LAFAYETTE (KATC) – With a week remaining until the Ragin’ Cajuns annual spring football game there is an air of excitement and anticipation on what the Cajuns’ offense will look like in Billy Napier’s second season.

And while all eyes will undoubtedly be on the Cajuns offense, it’s the Cajuns’ defense that may end up deciding just how far this team will go in the 2019 season.

Several expected defensive line starters including, Bennie Higgins, Zi’Yon Hill and Sammy Ochoa have all missed time this spring due to injuries.

But defensive line coach Rory Segrest says his backups have gained valuable playing time against the Cajuns first-team offense. Experience the team hopes will pay dividends this fall.

“Those guys have really been battling,”  Segrest said. “I mean that depth chart has been fluid this spring. It seems like we change it daily, but again, it’s kind of the situation where we can get different looks at guys against our ones.”
