IOTA (KATC) — This week’s Senior Spotlight features Iota High School senior powerlifter, Joseph Dupre. A six-time world champion in the sport of powerlifting in the 114lb and under weight class, Dupre hopes to compete in the 132lb and under weight class as a senior.
Dupre has helped lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back state runner-up titles in class 3A. Outside the weight room, he has also risen to national prominence as the vice president of the National Beta Club.
The Iota senior credits the sport of powerlifting for giving him the confidence to excel in all facets of life.
“Before I started powerlifting, I was kind of quiet, and I was kind of reserved,” Dupre said. “This sport has become an essential part of my being. It gave me the confidence, it gave me the comradery, the drive to understand that if you want something in life you have to work for it.”
