Lafayette Lions
2017 Record: 0-10
How it Happened: There were few close finishes for the Lions in 2017, a 35-30 loss to Patterson at home perhaps the closest the Lions came to a win. But no points were as low as a week 8 fight that broke out against LaGrange, forcing the Lions to forfeit their follow game to Sam Houston.
As Lafayette prepares for 2018, little will be said about returning talent like three-year starting quarterback Brennon Broussard and acrobatic receiver Canaan Leon. The Lions return nine key players on defense. But Coach Rob Pool insists the problem with the Lions is not about talent. Pool shuffled in new offensive coaches, allowing him to return to focusing on his defensive responsibilities. But his biggest focus is perhaps on how he can change the Lions’ losing culture.
LHS hasn’t had a winning season since 2006. Pool says the 0-10 season forced him to reflect on how the program operates, and he believes winning more games start with teaching players how to win in the classroom, in their jobs and become better classmates and friends.
