Tech Breaks Up Cajuns’ Win Streak 15-2

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana baseball team had its five-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night as the Cajuns fell to Louisiana Tech 15-2 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns (20-18) were outhit 17-4 in the contest by the Bulldogs (26-13) led by Mason Robinson who hit for the cycle with five RBI.
 
Freshman Austin Perrin took the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks in 2.1 innings of work.
 
La Tech starter David Leal tossed seven shutout innings with three hits, a walk and six strikeouts to earn his third victory of the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Louisiana Tech got out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run homer to left by Robinson.
 
The Bulldogs exploded for four runs on three hits, two walks and two errors in the top of the third to extend their advantage to 6-0. A Robinson RBI triple to left field highlighted the scoring in the inning.
 
La Tech put the game out of reach in the top of the fourth adding five more runs on four hits and an error to make the score 11-0. A Hunter Wells two-out, two-run single capped the scoring in the fourth.
 
Louisiana Tech added a pair of runs in the seventh and ninth innings to extend its lead to 15-0.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns avoided the shutout in the bottom of the ninth as Todd Lott brought home a pair of runs on a two-out, two-run double to left centerfield to make the final 15-2.
 
UP NEXT
 
Louisiana continues its homestand with a three-game conference series against West Division leader Little Rock starting Friday at 6 p.m. Game two of the series is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, while the series finale is at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
