PRESS RELEASE

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball first baseman Kourtney Gremillion, who hit .615 and had three multiple-hit games over the Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State contests, received her first career Sun Belt Conference Player Week award.

Gremillion went 8-for-13 at the plate over the four-game span, with four of the hits producing a run leading to a week total of six RBI.

She opened the week with a career-high hits total in a midweek game at Southeastern Louisiana. That night Gremillion was 4-for-4 at the plate and posted two RBI.

In the series-opening doubleheader vs. Texas State, Gremillion turned in a 4-for-7 showing at the plate with multiple hits in both games.

The freshman from Gonzales, La., powered the Ragin’ Cajuns’ offense with three RBI in the Game 2 win over the Bobcats which evened the series. Her last hit in that game was a two-run double, extending the lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning.

It’s the third weekly honor for a Ragin’ Cajun this season. In February, pitchers Kylee Jo Trahan (Feb. 13) and Summer Ellyson (Feb. 20) were honored by the league.

No. 22 Louisiana (28-11, 14-4 Sun Belt) travels to Lake Charles on Wednesday for the final non-conference game of the regular season, a 6 p.m. single game vs. McNeese at Cowgirl Diamond. The squad returns to Lamson Park this weekend for a Sun Belt series with Georgia Southern set for Saturday-Sunday, April 21-22.
