Vermilion Parish Animal Control is asking for your help in finding the person responsible for severely injuring a dog. The dog, who has now been named Destiny, is okay and recovering with a foster parent.

Severe burns cover Destiny from the top of her head, down her spine to her tail.

"She's going to have a long road to recovery," foster dog parent Andrea Andrews said. "We have to definitely keep an eye on this because we don't want any type of infection brewing from it."

It's believed this was intentional. She was found in Abbeville by a concerned family. Animal control thinks the Destiny was tortured and burned with hot oil or some type of chemical.

"We're hoping people will give us information," Debbie Garrot with the Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control said.

"We hope to get information on who owned this dog so we can ask authorities to investigate it and charges be filed for animal cruelty," Garrot said.

While Destiny is being nursed back to health, she has a group of people hoping to be her voice.

"It's disheartening," Andrews said. "To know that humanity has this kind of capability to do this to such innocent animals. Fostering is so important so we can step up and fight for them. "

Animal Control is asking for anyone with any kind of information to contact them at (337) 643-3160.
